Those who know me already know how much I love Natacha Silber’s photography (especially those of my son :) ) Natacha specializes in newborn photography but also offers maternity and family sessions. I am addicted! I had my maternity pictures done with Natacha, went back when my son was just 5 days old for his newborn pictures and back AGAIN for a family portrait this fall. I am thinking cake smash pictures are next…. I don’t need to tell you why I adore her work, just take a look for yourself!

Speaking of my son… I can’t recommend this next person highly enough: my good friend and doula Lewina Giles. Her presence at my son’s birth made a world of difference. I can’t imagine going through labor without her.  If you are pregnant and in the Montreal area, do yourself a favor and contact her!

My last recommendation has nothing to do with babies or bellies, it’s Lindsay Smith’s manicures.  I never have time to do my nails anymore, so I like to live out that fantasy through her daily polish posts on her blog Sometimes Fancy. She is AMAZING! and she will come to your house and do your nails (under certain conditions). For you pregnant and new moms who want to avoid chemicals, Lindsay can use the Soulstice Spa Vegan nail polish (more details on her blog). Here are some examples of her fabulous manicures:

You have some recommendations in your city you would like to share? Some talented people you want to tell the world about? Email us and we will be happy to publish your post!

Pregnancy PantyIt seems that we talk a lot about maternity fashion, maintaining your style, not losing your fashion mojo during your pregnancy…but what about good old comfort and support?

Yes, we want to look and feel great during pregnancy, but underneath the trendy jeans and the beautiful dresses, support for your growing belly is essential!

That’s where Cantaloop comes in.  Cantaloop is a Danish company specialized in pregnancy and breastfeeding products. Their main focus is keeping you comfortable and supported during and after your pregnancy.

For the moment, materni-t carries the Above-belly pregnancy panty and the pregnancy support belt. We will be receiving nursing bras and tanks shortly so stay tuned!

Are you wearing the right…bra?

If there is ever a time in your life where a properly fitting bra is more than necessary, it is when you’re nursing. Your nursing bra’s perfect mix of comfort and support is essential. Luckily, these days comfort does not have to mean ugly, and yes, sometimes we can have it all, thanks to companies like Amoralia and HOTmilk.

So, when should you buy a nursing bra?

This question comes up all the time. Many people suggest that you wait until your 37th week of pregnancy to purchase your nursing bra. Technically this is true, but I have seen many women purchase their nursing bras during pregnancy, only to try to return them after the baby is born, because the size is no longer right, or because breastfeeding didn’t work out, etc. Unfortunately, many places do not accept returns on nursing wear. My advice is to save your money and make an outing out of it when baby comes along. Once your milk has come in you’ll know exactly what size nursing bra to buy, and God knows you will want to get out of the house with your new bundle of joy!

So how do you know you’re wearing the right bra?

Even more than a normal bra, a nursing bra must be comfortable and supportive for mothers. And just like an every day bra, it can be difficult to find one that fits just right. Here are three tips to ensure your nursing bra fits the way it should:

1. Get your measurements taken by someone who knows what they are doing!
If you wish to purchase online, many brands have a bra size calculator. My brand of choice, Amoralia, has a section on their website dedicated to bra fitting, and includes a reliable fitting calculator. You simply have to enter your chest and bust measurements into the calculator and voila, you get your real bra size.  It is very important to have your measurements taken by someone else, preferably someone who knows what they are doing.

2. Not all bras are made equal.
There are good bras and there are bad bad bras. Price is not always the issue, and depending on your size, you can find some really good bras for a good price. However, if you have been blessed with a little more than your share, then I am sorry to say, you will need to pay a little bit more for a good bra. And by good bra, I mean one that fits right, with just the right strap width to provide comfort and support. Trust me, you are better off purchasing one bra that fits well than 3 cheap ones that you will not be comfortable wearing.

3. When you find a good one, hang on to it!
Just like no two bras are built alike, no two moms are the same, either. We all have different preferences that make us like a particular style over another. One thing is for sure, when you find one that fits and provides the support and comfort you need, you hold onto it! You guessed it, my lingerie drawer has very little variety when it comes to nursing bras. My absolute favourite combines comfort and style, the Cupcake by Amoralia.

Plus I love cupcakes, so that really all worked out quite well!

What are your favourite nursing bras?

You’re pregnant! What do you really need?

In your first trimester, you actually need very little! Some women don’t feel the need for maternity clothes until their second trimester. However, if you are among the ones that need a little extra space around the tummy, we have a few easy solutions that will tide you over and won’t break the bank!

Check out the Belly Belt Combo, this nifty accessory gives you some breathing room, and more importantly, allows you to keep wearing your non maternity clothes

Bellaband

longer! The BANDO and Bella Band will also help you get some more wear out of your regular wardrobe. You can wear the band to cover up an open button, or wear it under a regular tee for a layered look or to keep maternity clothes up after giving birth.

By the second trimester, most of us will need to do a little shopping. We’ve compiled a few of our best sellers that come highly recommended by our customers.

SkinnyOne of the most important maternity purchases, of course, is the jeans!  Skinny, flare, bootcut… choosing the style is the easy part. The real dilema is Band, like our Mischa jean from Ripe, or no Band, like our Bootleg slim from Japanese Weekend.  Unfortunately, we can’t answer that for you, as it depends on a few factors. The band can provide a little extra support, but some women don’t want that extra layer. No harm in trying them both and deciding what you prefer.  After giving birth, the JW bootleg is a lifesaver for your postpartum figure!

For all of the working mamas out there, the Ripe Pencil skirt is an absolute must! A perfect mix of style and comfort.  As for pants, check out our Ripe Tabor and Ripe Rialto pants. The Tabor has a nice foldover waistband that isn’t too bulky or cumbersome, and the Rialto has a low rise flat waistband that you can adjust on the sides.

Maternity tops…. there are many to choose from and those will depend on your style and budget. You can browse our current selection, and make sure to stop by often as we continuously receive new stock!9F Delaria
